Espinosa Honored as Eastern League Player of the Week

Harrisburg Senators shortstop Danny Espinosa has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 20th.

The 23-year old had an excellent week for the Senators, hitting .448 (13-for-29) with three doubles, four homers,12 RBI, seven runs scored, four walks, one stolen base and a .966 slugging percentage over seven games. Espinosa, who entered the season rated by Baseball America as the fifth best prospect in the Nationals organization, kicked off his week by hitting a home run in three straight games and finished the week with five multiple hit games, including combining to 5-for-7 with two home runs and five RBI in a doubleheader sweep at New Britain on Wednesday night.

The 6’0”, 190 lb. slugger ranked first among all Eastern League players in total bases (28) and extra-base hits (7) last week. He also tied for first in hits (13) and home runs (4), ranked second in RBI (12), slugging percentage (.966) and OPS (1.481) and tied for second in runs scored (7) and doubles (3). Danny, who was a Carolina League All-Star after hitting .264 with 18 home runs and 90 runs scored with the Potomac Nationals last year, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the third round of the 2008 draft after batting .303 over 168 career games at Long Beach State University.
