Congratulations to Washington Nationals Hitting Coach Rick Eckstein on his recent engagement to Caroline FitzPatrick!  Rick proposed the last weekend of the regular season while the Nats were in NYC playing the Mets.

The happy couple was set up by mutual friend Dick Cooke who coached with Rick for Team USA at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.  Cooke served as an auxiliary coach for manager Davey Johnson and Eckstein was the third base coach for the bronze medal team.  Caroline's younger twin brothers, Chris and Chase, played baseball for Cooke at Davidson College.

Rick Eckstein is the older brother of major leaguer and former World Series MVP David Eckstein. Rick joined the Nationals in 2008 as a September call-up, however, ended up replacing Lenny Harris as the hitting coach for the 2009 season.

The Nationals announced last week that all of the Nats coaches will return in 2011 so it looks like Rick is having a pretty good offseason so far!  Best wishes and Congrats to Rick and Caroline!
