Fans have come accustomed to the fireworks at Nationals Park during the National Anthem, after home runs, after wins and after Friday night home games.
If you've been to any of the home games this season, you may have noticed it has been a little quieter. There were fireworks on Opening Day for the pre-game ceremonies and none since.
Many of our readers have inquired about the status of fireworks at Nationals Park this season. There have been only two home game wins and the first win was after a rain delay so weather was thought to be the reason for lack of fireworks by some fans.
The Nationals front office confirmed that there will be no "Friday Fireworks" and no fireworks at Nationals Park during the National Anthem, after home runs and after wins.
I was told that, "Fireworks will only be present on July 2nd in celebration of the 4th of July."
If you listen to the Nationals games on the radio, you know that Charlie Slowes' catch phrase after a Nats win is, "Bang Zoom, Go The Fireworks!" That infamous phrase won't make much sense now. For the two wins, Charlie has used, "Bang Zoom, a Curly W is in the Books." Do you have any other suggestions for him?
Fireworks during National Anthem before Nats game in 2010
I think Werth and LaRoche should pay for the fireworks. How can my FB status are a win be Bang Zoom go the fireworks if there are no more fireworks? That sucks!!!!
Charlie's "Bang,Zoom..." is the only legitimate home grown tradition we have so far. Perhaps after wins we could at least have some virtual fireworks on the scoreboard screen just so he can keep it going.
Did the Nats front office offer a reason after confirming that they aren't doing fireworks anymore?
Anon-Virtual fireworks is an interesting idea.
This is NOT the Lerners doing. The only reason there is not more fireworks is because the DC fire marshal told the Nats they are not aloud to do it anymore because its a hazard. The Nats are required to obey the DC fire chief.
