The Washington Nationals had the grand opening of four new eateries from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) at Nationals Park on the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk. Crowds flocked to Blue Smoke, Shake Shack, El Verano Taquería and Box Frites on Tuesday, June 14 when the Nationals hosted the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:05 p.m.
The Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk is located on the Mezzanine level behind the scoreboard and covers approximately 15,000 square feet of open space. The new seating area is approximately 4,000 square feet lined with synthetic turf and many live trees, bushes and plants to make it feel like "backyard."
The new "shade sails" will provide a nice covered area while waiting for food in the warmer weather. According to the Nationals, the sails were designed and provided by Tenshon specifically for the Nats. "They will reduce ambient temperature up to 20 degrees and provide protection of up to 93.7% of UV rays,protecting fans from excessive heat and sun exposure."
Another big announcement was the $5 happy hour beer specials will be available 2 ½ hours prior to scheduled first pitch at the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk Bar for ALL remaining home games of the 2011 season. The four option for $5 are Pilsner Urquell, Miller High Life and Miller Lite in cans and Coors Light bottle.
In addition to the new options, the area was enhanced with the addition of a 15’ x 25’ HDTV screen behind the scoreboard and brand new furniture, giving fans a place to kick back without missing a minute of the action on the field.

We spoke with several fans about the new items and received some inital feedback.
Some of the favorite new items from fans:
“Elote” Corn on the Cob (El Verno Taqueria) - Corn is very flavorful. A little spicy for me, but everyone seems to love it.
Blue Smoke’s Salty-Peanut Jalapeño Chocolate Bar - Blue Smoke chocolate bar was surprisingly tasty. You don't really taste the jalapeño at all. A little salty. Rich. Must share with friends.
Kansas City Spareribs (Blue Smoke) - Heard nothing, but raves about the ribs.
Garlic-Parmasean Frites (Box Frites) - The garlic parmesan fries were fantastic! More cheesy than garlic. Delicious. Large enough for two.
"Concrete" (Shake Shack) - Vanilla custard with chocolate truffle cookie dough, peanuts and caramel. Wow. Just wow. The concrete is already a favorite of Nationals COO Andrew Feffer.
’Shroom Burger (vegetarian) (Shake Shack) - We heard that this was out of this world. One of the most unique items, it might not be your first pick. After you've tried the traditional burger, try the Crisp-fried portobello filled with melted Muenster and cheddar cheese, topped with lettuce tomato and ShackSauce. We heard from multiple fans that this didn't even taste like mushrooms and it was simply cheesy and fabulous.
We only heard a few complaints.
The line for Shake Shack took about 30 minutes close to game time through the seventh inning. That is pretty similar to Ben's Chili Bowl when the park opened in 2008. Go early.
We heard that the Pulled Pork Sandwich from Blue Smoke was "just okay" from several. The complaint was too much bun and not enough meat.
