The Nationals have dedicated the day as “Joining Forces with the Washington Nationals – Honoring Our Military Families,” in support of the Joining Forces initiative, which is spearheaded by Mrs. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden. Joining Forces is a national initiative that focuses on mobilizing all sectors of society to support military families.

In the spirit of the Nationals’ military outreach, the First Lady will be escorted to home plate by children from military families, one of whom will throw out the first pitch. Mrs. Obama will also join military families when they are recognized by fans during the third inning military tribute, a game day tradition at Nationals Park. In addition, all pregame assets and in-game programming elements – including a special public service announcement featuring the First Lady and Nationals players – will highlight the courage and sacrifice of military families.

Fans are encouraged to arrive an hour to two hours earlier than normal due to enhanced security and to reduce the risk of having to stand in line at each gate. Center Field Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., while all gates open at 5:30 p.m.
