The Washington Nationals released Outfielder Elijah Dukes during spring training.  Since then, Dukes has kept out of the headlines and out of baseball.

On July 1, 2010, Dukes signed a contract with the Newark Bears in New Jersey to play baseball in the Atlantic Independent League.  In four games, Elijah is 2-for-12 with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts with a .167 AVG.

Newark is managed by former MLB star Tim Raines and coached by Ron Karkovice. The roster is full of former big leaguers as well, including another former National Daryle Ward, Scott Spiezio, Brian Barton, Carl Everett, Willie Banks, and Edgardo Alfonzo.

The Newark Bears play at Maryland Blue Crabs in Waldorf, Maryland August 9-12.
