RYAN ZIMMERMAN TO BEGIN REHAB WITH CHIEFS
All-Star third baseman scheduled to join team on Saturday
Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Chiefs are pleased to announce that Washington Nationals All-Star third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is scheduled to begin a Major League rehab assignment in Syracuse on Saturday, June 11. Zimmerman is scheduled to play for the Chiefs against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in Saturday night’s game starting at 7:00 PM. The two-time Silver Slugger winner is currently 6 for 12 (.500) with three doubles, a triple, and two RBI in his four-game rehab stint between Class-A Hagerstown and Class Advanced-A Potomac. Zimmerman has been recovering from a torn abdominal muscle and has not appeared in a Major League game since April 9. He underwent surgery on May 3.
Zimmerman has played in eight games with the Nationals this season. He has collected 10 hits in 28 at- bats for a .357 batting average, with one home run and four RBI. The 26-year old has excelled in seven seasons with Washington. Zimmerman has compiled a .289 batting average with 117 home runs since his Major League debut in 2005. He was named an All-Star and a National League Gold Glove winner in 2009, and has won the Silver Slugger award for National League third basemen in each of the past two seasons. Zimmerman finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2006. He was drafted fourth overall out of the University of Virginia by the Nationals in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
