Press Release:
Syracuse, NY—The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce that left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone has been named the International League’s Pitcher of the Week for June 27 to July 3rd. Milone, a Triple-A rookie, leads the IL in strikeouts.
Milone threw for 14 innings and a third this week and allowed just one run. Monday in Rochester, Milone struck out six and allowed just three hits. Five days later, the 24-year-old Milone allowed just one run on five hits in six innings and a third at Buffalo in the Chiefs’ extra-inning win. In that start, Milone became the first IL pitcher to strike out 100 batters this season.
On Thursday, Milone was named to the Triple-A All-Star Team by fans, media, field staffs and general managers in the league. It was his second-straight All-Star appearance after being named an Eastern League All-Star last year with Double-A Harrisburg. The Triple-A All-Star Game is slated for July 13th at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Milone is scheduled to pitch Friday against the Pawtucket Red Sox as part of a seven-game homestand. The Chiefs are home tonight against Buffalo to begin that home stretch. Game time is 6:30 P.M. with an Independence Day fireworks display to follow presented by 95X and Time Warner Cable Sports.
Tickets for all remaining Chiefs home games can be purchased in person at the team's ticket office at Alliance Bank Stadium, by calling 315-474-7833, or online at SyracuseChiefs.com.
